In 1906 Reverend Joseph Sentell sold his horse, his only transportation, in order to provide money to build a church building. So, began the journey of First Baptist Church of Bluegrass. Jones Chapel Baptist Church organized in 1906 and relocated in 1971- Rev. A.J. Rawland, Pastor.
One move and 116 years later they find themselves near the corner of Ebenezer Road and Northshore Drive. The area has transformed into an urban community with dozens of subdivisions and thousands of families of all sizes and spiritual sensitivities. Little did those first few faithful know when they began worshipping together, what the future held for this church. God knew however, and chose to place them in this thriving community of individuals looking for purpose, meaning, and significance in life.
First Baptist Church of Bluegrass exists to serve these people. It seeks to relay God's answers concerning life which mankind's Creator has provided for His people in His Word. The Church is striving to becomes fully functioning followers of Christ who share His love with their church, community, and world. They do not see themselves as those who have arrived in any sense, but as those who are reaching out in their own struggles to the One who comes alongside folk to perform His redemptive purpose in and through them.
